Explore the Maine Coast by sea kayak. Learn navigation skills for paddling in the fog and sun. Swim off deserted islands along the rugged Maine Island Trail. This is the summer trip of a lifetime. Ride the ocean swells and become a master of leave no trace -ISLAND STYLE!
The trip starts at Pinkham Notch where you will load up all gear for the kayak trip. Prepare all food for water travel and learn the best practices of Sea Kayak Pros.
We will drive to a fresh water campground near the Maine Coast and jump into the practice pond to discover ways to rescue each other and appropriate / efficient paddle strokes. A BBQ over the fire is a great way for the team to bond together on the first night.
Day two is go time! Pack up the boats for our first Island. A quick drive to the dock and we are floating with the seals. The smells and sounds of harbor life take over as we make our way to the first island.
A few days of paddling in all sorts of conditions will teach navigation, understanding of the tides, and refinement of our boating handling skills - and what better place to practice it than the protected Muscungus Bay under the supervision of a Maine Guide and the leadership of AMC Teen Wilderness Instructors.
Our last day will surely come way too quickly ... paddle out, drive home and unpack. Taking only memories and pictures from the fragile Maine Island Trail, we say goodbye and dream of next years adventure.
*Prices include instruction, transportation during the course, all meals from lunch the first day through lunch the last day, group equipment (tents, stoves, pots/pans, etc.), and all camping fees during the program..
