Overview

Explore the rivers and cliff sides of the White Mountains in one action packed week. On this trip you will spend three days white water kayaking and three days rock climbing. Each section follows a thoughtful skills progression to help you gain or refine skills, build confidence and have lots of fun. General Itinerary: The participants will meet each other and the AMC instructors on the first morning at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. We will spend the morning getting to know each other, covering logistics and expectations, and thoroughly checking our personal gear and all group equipment. After lunch, we'll head to a nearby forest service campground where we will set up our base camp for the first section of the trip. That evening we'll review the events for the week and prepare for the adventures ahead. Rock Climbing ~ The three-day rock climbing section of this trip will be spent with the AMC and Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing staff learning standard rock climbing techniques. We will learn about proper equipment use, how to belay, as well as the correct way to move over rock. After a morning of introduction, we'll spend two days top roping at climbing sites such as Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge in North Conway. On the final day, put your skills to the test with a multi-pitch climb, taking you high off the ground to reach incredible views and exciting exposure. EMS will provide all rock climbing equipment needed Kayaking~ Plunge through the rapids of the Androscoggin while you learn and develop paddle strokes, read the river, roll, and make maneuvers through swiftly moving water. Spend three days developing personal skills on the water, returning to your riverside basecamp in the evenings. During the first paddle day you will start on flat water to learn or refresh the foundational skills and gradually move on to Class I, II and possibly III whitewater.
