Young Members Trail Crew (Under 40) Volunteer Vacation
Date and Time
Sunday, July 1, 2018 - Friday, July 6, 2018
Camp Dodge Volunteer Center,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
Registration is required for this activity.
This program is designed for ages 18-39 interested in working with other folks their same age to give back to trails. AMC provides you with a valuable volunteer experience in a beautiful place, learning something new, and also allowing for free time to explore the area.
TRAIL WORK: Projects may include maintenance projects from basic brush clearing to building rock or wood structures. Our volunteer crews accommodate all levels of trail work experience and if you are brand new to trail work, we will teach you all of the techniques. Hiking to the project can range from flat - steep terrain and up to 2 miles. WEATHER: The weather in The White Mountains can be warm during the day and cool at night with frequent wet conditions. Be prepared to work on the trails in all kinds of weather (except in extreme weather events). A gear list will be included in the full registration packet.
THE WEEK'S SCHEDULE: Please plan to arrive between 3-4 pm on the Sunday start date of your crew. Dinner and an intro to camp and crew life will be at 6:00pm. The Crew will average 6-8 hours/day in the field, with Wednesday free for exploring the area. The crew returns each evening to Camp Dodge and on Friday night there is a BBQ for all. Participants may leave Friday evening or Saturday morning- which is included in the program cost.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The AMC Camp Dodge Volunteer Center is operated under a special use permit with the US Forest Service. Camp Dodge is the launching point for all of our White Mountain Volunteer Trail Crew programs. The crew will stay in bunkhouses with bunk beds and mattresses each night of the program. Don't forget your headlamp or flashlight; there is no electricity in the bunkhouses. Also available at Camp Dodge is a large bathhouse with hot showers, a dining room and full kitchen. Our kitchen staff prepares all meals and your leaders will ask you to take turns helping out with clean-up. After dinner, the crew has time to relax, play games, and simply enjoy their surroundings. What is included in the cost? All Food, Lodging, Leadership, Tools, Protective Equipment, and Transportation to and from project locations.
HOW TO REGISTER: Complete the on-line registration and you will receive a confirmation with attached forms and information packet. We must receive these back no less than 3 weeks before the crew starts so we can prepare for your arrival.
