Mount Tecumseh, New Hampshire,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
The last time the NH ski committee led a New Year's Eve ski trip on Mount Tecumseh was on December 31, 2013. This year, we're finally back, thanks to AMC's Cardigan Mountain Ski School Director Ted Stever, who worked with Waterville management to find a way for us to enjoy this early season trip! The trip consists of a climb up the Tecumseh hiking trail to a point near its summit and then a traverse to link up with the downhill trail network of the ski resort. The ascent will be via climbing skins if the Tecumseh trail is covered with snow; if not, we'll boot up. The trip is open to skiers, split-boarders, and resort boarders. Skiers and split-boarders should have climbing skins and means to attach their skis or boards to their ski packs in case of no snow. Resort boarders will require snow shoes. If the trail is simply icy, boot traction devices (e.g., micro spikes) might be a good idea to bring along. The trip is a kind of shakedown cruise for the coming backcountry ski season, so participants should equip themselves as for a backcountry day ski trip. A modest fee will be charged by Waterville Valley to make the single run down their trails to the resort base. If there is interest, an après-ski debriefing over BEvERages will be arranged.
