Hockanum Park, 324 High St., E. Hartford, CT,
Connecticut, East of River,
NOTE: This is really an EOR hike on Wednesday, rather than Thursday, due to scheduling conflicts with Goodwin College. Approximately 4-5 mile walk along the Eastern edge of the Connecticut River from East Hartford South to Glastonbury and back. Will also include a small section of Wethersfield, yes, there is actually a section of Wethersfield East of the Connecticut River. This walk will include land belonging to Goodwin College and the Great Meadows Conservation Trust that is used by Goodwin's Environmental Studies Program, but is not normally open to the general public. Eventually, this area is intended to be part of a trail system extending from the Charter Oak Bridge area of E. Hartford South to the Putnam Bridge area in Glastonbury. Since this is a flood plain area, the footing and trail conditions may vary. Use of poles is suggested. Potential tour of the Goodwin College Ct River Campus with Bruce Morton, Program Director of Environmental Studies, following the hike. Meet at Hockanum Park on High St. at 9:45 for prompt 10:00 start. Steady Rain or Snow/Hazardous road conditions cancels.
DIRECTIONS: From Rte. 2 West, take Exit 5A, Main St. At the second traffic light, take a left and then another left under the highway straight onto High St. for about 0.5 miles to Hockanum Park on the left at 324 High St., just past the Elementary School. From Rte. 2 East, take Exit 5A, bear right onto High St. Once on High St., follow the above directions South to Hockanum Park on the left at 324 High St. No car spot required.
