Overview

The creation of Flagstaff Lake wrote a sad chapter in our history. The three villages of Bigelow, Dead River and Flagstaff were inundated and their residents forced to relocate and scatter. Buildings, most of them purchased by CMP prior to the gates in the dam being closed, were either razed, sold, or moved by their owners. Some buildings were left to be flooded. Long Falls Dam was constructed in 1948 and 1949 and impounds an area of approximately 22,000 acres. Alan Burnell and Kenny Wing, lifelong Mainers have had a shared passion for the story. They will share the photos and storied from their book, Lost Villages of Flagstaff Lake.
