Overview

Join me for a short but swift trek across the recently restored High Bridge from the Grand Concourse in the Bronx to the Little Red Lighthouse under the GWB. We'll meet on the steps of the Bronx Civil Courthouse (851 Grand Concourse; take the B, D, or 4 train to 161st St.) by Yankee Stadium, then walk up the Grand Concourse and over the High Bridge, and finally across Manhattan to the Little Red Lighthouse in Ft. Washington Park for a spectacular sunset over the Palisades. After the walk, we will go back to 181st street for some food and drink at a really grand Irish pub in Hudson Heights. Approximately five (5) brisk miles. This is upper Manhattan, which is not at all flat, so expect several uphill street climbs and steep public staircases. Please wear layered clothing and bring water/snacks as there will be very few stops. Take the subway back from 181st street whenever you want (A, C, and No. 1 trains). This is a point to point hike, so drivers should park where they can easily retrieve their car by subway. Limit of 15 participants; please register with Patrick at: westieterrier2000@yahoo.com.

Leader

I have been an AMC member for several years and have recently been made a hike leader. My hikes are designed to be fun and social, while providing a good workout and great views without having to get up at the crack of dawn. They will be accessible by public transportation and end with a social somewhere interesting, but typically at a brewpub or cool bar. I'm calling these my Rails-To-Trails-To-Ales hiking series. I expect to be the last one on the train home to NYC! Please join me.
