Join this One-Week Spike Teen Trail Crew in the White Mountains, NH designed for girls only!
AMC's Camp Dodge Volunteer Center is located in the heart of the White Mountains. Camp Dodge is a full-service AMC facility that is open to volunteers during the summer months. The facility includes a full-service kitchen, bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets, and separate girls and boys bunkhouses. In the main building you'll find a common area with picnic tables, library, couches, Ping-Pong table, and a full kitchen staffed with cooks during the summer months. Meals are served twice a day, 7 a.m. breakfast and 6 p.m. dinner at Camp Dodge. Everyone will be asked to pitch in cleaning up.
On each Monday morning, the crew will set up a campsite in the backcountry after a 1-4 mile hike. For the duration of the week the crew will sleep in tents and cook meals on portable camp stoves. AMC supplies all food, tents, tarps, cook gear, tools, water treatment, and first-aid supplies (all staff has Wilderness First Aid certification or higher). A list of required and suggested clothing, equipment, and personal gear is attached.
Trail Work: Experienced Trail Crew Leaders will provide training on trail maintenance and restoration projects on White Mountain National Forest trails. Due to the variable nature of trail work (priorities can change overnight based on weather and conditions), we won't have detailed information on your crew's specific project until you arrive. Projects may include: clearing or building drainage ditches, brushing back vegetation, hardening trails with gravel, constructing bog bridges, or building rock staircases.
Our volunteer trail crews are designed to accommodate all levels of trail work experience safely and enjoyably. We will provide all tools, safety equipment and first aid as needed, training and supervision. Work locations selected by AMC staff will be in the back country and primitive campsites are selected near a water source but with no facilities nearby. We will average 6 to 8 hours a day in the field. Upon successful completion of this crew, you will earn 40 Community Service Hours and we'll email you a letter reflecting this.
