For those with some three season backpacking background who desire to learn the more advanced practices of three-season backpacking. Instruction in higher mountain safety, hiking longer with a full overnight pack, equipment, proper camp site selection and set up, cooking, trail finding, map and compass, off-trail navigation, weather, trip planning, route planning, nutrition, and emergency situations. Students will need a good three-season sleeping bag (+20 degree F), warm clothing, rain gear and foam pad. Tents may be provided if needed. Students in this section will spend the bulk of their time out doors, sleeping outside Friday and Saturday night. The group will prepare Saturday breakfast and dinner and Sunday breakfast outdoors. Workshop will begin promptly at 7:30pm on Friday, ending Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm. Cost is $165/members, $185/non-members,and includes lodging, excellent meals, materials, and instruction.
