Overview

Join us on this hut-to-hut adventure as we traverse the Presidential Range from North to South. Beginning with dinner and a group meeting, we gear up for our backcountry adventure; first night will be a comfortable night's lodging at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge. The next morning after a hearty breakfast, we embark on our hike up the Airline Trail to Madison Spring Hut. The next day we traverse the rocky northern Presidential Range to Lakes of the Clouds Hut giving us ample opportunity to explore the ridge in full summer glory. From Lakes of the Clouds Hut, we continue along the southern Presidential Range to Mizpah Spring Hut. We end our hike by descending the historic Crawford Path to the Highland Center, where we'll meet an AMC van and drive back to Joe Dodge Lodge. This multiday trip starts from Mount Madison and follows the ridgeline south hitting Mt. Adams, Mt Jefferson, Mt. Clay, Mt. Washington, Mt. Monroe, Mt. Franklin, Mt. Eisenhower, and Mt. Pierce before ending at the Highland Center in Crawford Notch. Participants will have the option of skirting or tagging the true summits based on the interest, ability of the group and the weather. This trip involves challenging terrain including steep rocky ascents, uneven footing and exposed terrain above treeline. Weather can change quickly and become quite cold and windy. Participants should be in excellent hiking shape, have proper hiking boots and clothing and be prepared for a summer alpine adventure! Day one: Meet your AMC Guides and your fellow hikers for dinner and an overview at the AMC Joe Dodge Lodge, Comfortable nights lodging at the AMC Joe Dodge Lodge Day two: After a hearty breakfast we drive to the Appalachia Trailhead and hike 3.8 miles up the Airline Trail to Madison Hut gaining 3500 feet in elevation. Day three: We continue from Madison Hut across the ridge to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. This is the toughest day of our traverse with 7.2 miles over rough rocky terrain with incredible scenery. Day four: Our next destination is a 5.0 mile hike from Lakes of the Clouds Hut located on the shoulder of Mt Washington at 5200 feet to Mizpah Hut with more above treeline exploration and fabulous views in all directions. Elevation loss over 5 miles is 2000 feet. Day five: We head down from the mountains by hiking the 2.7 miles from AMC's Mizpah Hut losing 1700 feet of elevation to the trailhead at the Highland Center for clean clothes and hot showers and reality! *If time, weather and energy allow, there will be options to summit the higher peaks.
