Join us on a winter hike to Galehead Mtn. (4024')
With Gale River Road closed in the winter, we will take an alternate route to this peak via a connecting trail from the Beaver Brook picnic area on Route 3. We'll hike along the X-ski trails, to Gale River Road, following this road to the Gale River Trailhead. Expect the round trip to be approximately 13.4 miles with about 2700' of elevation gain.
Expect this route to receive less traffic than other, more popular 4K's and therefore be willing to break trail and spend the day in snowshoes. Galehead itself is a treeless summit, but hopefully we'll have nice enough weather to enjoy a break and beautiful views from the front porch of Galehead Hut. Recent winter 4K experience required with similar mileage or difficulty. Call leader/registrar to complete registration.
