Connecticut, West of River,

Don't miss the second of the 2018 series of CT AT ReTreads Wednesday work parties. This time, we'll head into the expansive open fields at Bunker Hill near the Lion's Head trailhead. These fields which provide a rich and rare environment for grassland birds... some of which are exceedingly uncommon in Connecticut. Recognizing this asset of nature, the area is managed by the CT AMC AT Committee to maintain this habitat for species of grassland birds, including Bluebirds. We will repair/replace any damaged Bluebird nesting boxes or their mountings... then we'll even try to remember not to damage them with the field mowing equipment in the future! We also plan to brush along the treeline and cull out dead trees as needed. Bring your usual hiking gear, work gloves, favorite hand tools, lunch and plenty of water.
