Date and Time

Friday, September 28, 2018 5:00PM - Sunday, September 30, 2018 3:00AM

Highland Center,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,

Registration is required for this activity.

With White Mountain fall foliage as the backdrop, AMC's professional guides introduce backpacking skills such as backcountry travel considerations, Leave No Trace ©, map & compass, campsite cooking and set-up, and basic first aid skills to active adults and kids over 13 years of age. The first night is spent at Highland Lodge for trip orientation and gear review before setting out for a two-day, one night trip to Ethan Pond perched on the edge of the Pemigewassett Wilderness. Historically one of the most extensively logged areas of the White Mountains in the 19th century, today the shores of Ethan Pond and surrounding trails provide a sense of wildness perfect for outdoor adventure and learning. The Ethan Pond Trail, part of the Appalachian Trail, will serve as the entry point following portions of old logging roads as it ascends out of Crawford Notch and reaches the pond located below the majestic cliffs of Mt Willey. Hikes will be moderately challenging, including a potential summit attempt on a nearby 4000 footer.
