Overview

This program is perfect for the novice backpacker looking to learn and build skills for an Appalachian Trail thru hike. You'll spend your first night at Highland Center Lodge where you'll learn what to pack, how to plan for a backpacking trip, and tips for the trail. The following day will be spent learning map & compass, camp cooking, and natural history while hiking a nearby section of the AT to get a feel for the terrain. We'll return to the Highland Center that evening for a presentation by experienced distance hikers Mike & Lori Innes, who have great photos and stories of their adventures on the AT and other long-distance hikes. We'll spend the last day on another section of the AT while building on our skills, and we'll conclude with a session on planning your own AT adventure. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: •Learn backpacking skills: backcountry travel, LNT, navigation, backcountry cooking, basic first aid, and more. •Travel through beautiful remote terrain along the Appalachian Trail in the White Mountains
