Overview

Ready to get on the sharp end? Learn the basics of trad lead climbing in a single pitch environment. This skills class is for rock climbers with the following experience: qualified gym lead climber (with clipping under duress), completed anchor building skills course (CT AMC or comparable), confident multi-pitch seconding experience at 5.7-5.8, and experience rappelling with hands-free backup. The class will cover: •Route finding; using guide books; planning the descent •Hazard assessment; leader fall risks •Placement of protection, active and passive; racking gear •Rope management and extending draws •Proper rope clipping technique •Belaying a second from above •Proper leader falling technique Taught by AMGA certified guide.

Co-Chair of the AMC CT Climbing/Mountaineering Committee. A frequent trad rock and ice climber. Began climbing in 2013 under the mentorship of several professional guides and joined the AMC in 2015 to find others with a shared interest. Has climbed in CT crags, the Gunks, North Conway, NH, the Tetons, Sierra Nevadas, and Red Rock, NV.
