Overview

This adventure is designed for women in search of a fun winter expedition on skis. The trip begins with an orientation session and overnight at AMC's Highland Center at Crawford Notch. The next day we gear up for the ski expedition to AMC's backcountry hut at Zealand Falls. One night is spent at the hut preparing a group dinner, checking out the winter sky at night and learning about winter ecology in the White Mountains. The terrain moderately challenging and the pace will be comfortable with plenty of time to explore and learn. Led by AMC's professional Outdoor Guides Participants should have intermediate to advanced cross-country skiing skills. Participants must be comfortable carrying an overnight pack over moderately challenging terrain. Participants must be willing/able to carry their extra clothing, sleeping bag and group food for 6 miles with 1200 feet elevation gain to Zealand Falls Hut. Our planned mode of travel is on skis (they can be rented locally if needed), but please keep in mind that conditions can be variable and snowshoes/microspikes will be our alternate mode of travel. Hut accommodations are rustic with wood stove heat for the common space and cooking facilities. Bunk rooms are not heated.
