Overview

For those who have mastered the basics of three-season backpacking. Instruction on general winter mountain safety, snowshoeing, equipment, proper camp site selection and set up, cooking, trail finding, map and compass, off-trail navigation, weather, trip planning, nutrition, and handling emergency situations. Students will need winter clothing, -20° or lower sleeping bag, and a foam pad. A 3- or 4-season backpacking tent is needed. Group will participate in indoor lectures and evening programs, sleeping outside Friday/Saturday night, and preparing two meals outdoors. Workshop will begin promptly at 7:30pm on Friday, and ends Sunday around 4:30pm. Fee includes lodging, excellent meals, materials, and instruction.
