Date and Time

Saturday, November 17, 2018, 12:30PM - 3:30PM

138th Street and Grand Concourse, Bronx, New York, USA,
New York, New York City,

Registration is required for this activity.

Registration is requested by clicking on the Register Now link above (but not absolutely required) in order to help manage group size and ensure a safe and fun event. A YES RSVP can be changed to NO at any time. Even if you are on the waitlist you will likely be able to attend due to many last minute cancellations and no shows. For the Lower East Side immigrants in the mid 20th Century, an address on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx represented the embodiment of the American dream. The boulevard's four-lane grandeur with its architecturally stunning apartment buildings, was modeled after the Champs Elysees in Paris. We will walk the entire 4.5 mile length of the Concourse from 138th Street to Van Cortlandt Park, stopping briefly to view and discuss the most famous places, and still have time for a short visit to the Bronx Museum of Arts (free) along the way, and the Edgar Allan Poe house ($5 if you choose to enter) if time permits. We will walk at a steady, intermediate 3 level (not fast, but definitely not slow) pace over a distance of approximately 4.5 miles (Per AMC policy, please no dogs, unless indicated otherwise). We do not anticipate any extended lunch stop, so please bring snacks to eat along the way. The walk ends at Bedford Park Boulevard, where we can take the D train subway line back to Manhattan, or wherever you are going. Rain or even questionable forecast may cancel or postpone; check website for latest updates. We meet at 12:30 PM at the street entrance to the 138th St.-Grand Concourse subway station (4 or 5 line). Please leave yourself a bit extra time getting there due to possible train delays.
