Next, enjoy a two day backpack trip up to Osgood tentsite, where you will set up camp for two nights. From there, weather permitting, you will have the opportunity to summit Mount Madison to take in the unbelievable views of the Presidential Range. The remaining three days of the trip will be spent traveling by canoe on Lake Umbagog of northern New Hampshire, spotting Loons, Eagles and maybe even moose! For ages: 12-14 General Itinerary: Day 1 ~ Participants will meet each other and the AMC instructors on the first morning at the Pinkham Notch Visitor's Center. We will spend the morning getting to know each other, covering logistics and expectations, and thoroughly checking our personal gear. After lunch we will head to a nearby National Forest Campground where we will set up camp and go for a hike in the Pinkham Notch Area. Day 2 ~ This day will consist of a long day hike with lunch on the trail, and we'll return to the campground in the evening for dinner and evening activities. Days 3-5 ~ We'll set out for a two-night backpacking trip in the White Mountain National Forest. We will hike 3-5 miles each day as we explore the area and reach nearby peaks. We will return to Pinkham Notch on the morning of day five to switch our equipment and begin canoeing. Days 5-7 ~ We'll spend two nights canoe camping on the Connecticut river, in northern New Hampshire. On the afternoon of day 5, we'll drive to the canoe put-in and review basic canoe strokes and techniques, group safety issues, how to pack a canoe properly, basic water navigation skills and open water rescue skills. We'll then pack our canoes and explore the shoreline, river and marshes; look for loons, moose, and other wildlife; and enjoy a swim if the weather is nice. By late afternoon, we'll arrive at our campsite, where we'll unload out gear, set up camp, and eat dinner. The following days we'll continue to travel by canoe, camping in a different location each night. On day 7 we'll pack up our campsite, paddle to our take-out, and return to the Pinkham Notch Visitor's Center to say our goodbyes!
