Explore some of the most striking mountainous terrain in the East. With several wilderness areas and world-famous mountain ranges, the 770,000-acre White Mountain National Forest offers some of New England's premier hiking. The group will hike three to eight miles per day while carrying all the camping gear and food, they need to stay comfortable and safe in the backcountry. As you travel from one campsite to the next, you will build friendships, teamwork, and confidence in your skills and comfort on the trail. For ages 13-15. General Itinerary: Day 1: After meeting with instructors, group and parents, gear is checked and issued. After lunch the group heads to the trailhead to hike to the first campsite where they learn about camp set up, cooking on a camp stove, and sleeping comfortably in the backcountry. Day 2-3: The group works together to break down camp. They go over their route for the day, and hit the trail for their next camp site stopping for lunch and breaks. After arriving in camp, the group may play a game, participate in team initiatives, or have some down time to reflect on their experience in the outdoors. Day 4: The group may stay at one campsite for 2 nights, to allow them to do some "peak bagging" without the full weight of their backpack. This allows the group to move fast and light, and more easily access the incredible views the White Mountains have to offer. Day 5-6: The group continues to travel to more back country campsites, refining their outdoor skills, developing friendships and enjoying scenic views along the way. Day 7: The group will hike out to the trailhead, where they will be picked up and transported back to Pinkham Notch. They will have lunch, de-issue borrowed equipment and debrief their trip before being picked up in the afternoon.
