Overview

Ever dream of backpacking the Appalachian trail? If so, join us on this 5-day adventure in New Hampshire, where we'll cover a beautiful portion of this 2,180-mile trail. This trip provides a great introduction to the skills needed for longer backpacking trips and through hikes. You will learn about the essentials to stay comfortable and safe, and what to leave behind to minimize pack weight. You will camp at back country campsites along the trail, meeting thru-hikers along the way, and perhaps having the opportunity to hear about their travels. General Itinerary: Day 1: After meeting with instructors, group and parents, gear is checked and issued. After lunch the group heads to the trailhead to hike to the first campsite where they learn about camp set up, cooking on a camp stove, and sleeping comfortably in the backcountry. Day 2-4: The group works together to break down camp. They go over their route for the day, and hit the trail for their next camp site stopping for lunch and breaks. The group continues refining their outdoor skills, developing friendships and enjoying scenic views along the way. After arriving in camp, the group may play a game, participate in team initiatives, or have some down time to reflect on their experience in the outdoors. Day 5: The group will hike out to the trailhead, where they will be picked up and transported back to Pinkham Notch. They will have lunch, de-issue borrowed equipment and debrief their trip before being picked up in the afternoon.
