Overview

This crew is currently full with a waitlist. Visit http://bit.ly/2u0NG7X for more AMC Teen Trail Crews at Noble View Outdoor Center in Russell, MA, and visit http://bit.ly/2NWSXHb for information about AMC's Teen Wilderness Adventures. Teens ages 15-17 get out and give back while living and working in the backcountry of the White Mountain National Forest! Volunteer trail crews are an opportunity to meet new friends, learn about conservation, practice backcountry camping skills, and accomplish a meaningful trail stewardship project. One-week crews are appropriate for volunteers who are new to backpacking and volunteer trail work. Arrival is Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, where volunteers will meet their crew and leaders, pack up food, tools, camping equipment and personal gear for the week. Packs weigh 40-60 lbs. Crews will then be driven by van to a nearby trailhead and hike in to set up camp on Sunday afternoon. Monday-Thursday are spent working on a trail stewardship project. The work may involve installing drainage structures, building rock steps, constructing bog bridges, restoring impacted areas, building cairns and scree walls, and other trail maintenance projects. The work will be strenuous, and we will be out rain or shine. After working, crews may enjoy a hike, swim, or game at camp. Crew members all take turns helping with meal preparation and camp chores throughout the week. The crew will return to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Friday to unpack gear, clean tools, and enjoy a final lunch before departure at 2:00 PM. * Please note that, due to renovation work on Camp Dodge Volunteer Center, the White Mountain Crews are limited in number and structured differently this year. Friday night accommodation is not included, nor is supervision before scheduled arrival time and after scheduled departure. Leaders will provide transportation to and from North Conway for volunteers who would like to take the Concord Coach Line on Sunday and Friday afternoons (https://concordcoachlines.com/route/berlin-conway-boston-logan-airport/). Please contact our registrar at 603-466-8156 for more information.
