AMC's Highland Center is looking for new Information Volunteers and Program Volunteers. These volunteers are passionate about helping people enjoy the outdoors and learn about the natural world. Information Volunteers greet guests in a friendly manner, offer advice about hiking trails and outdoor activity planning, lend outdoor gear, and engage with guests using hands-on educational displays ("Table Talks"). Program Volunteers lead free short guided hikes or nature walks, engage with guests at "Table Talks," and lead other activities. Participants often include families with children and novice hikers. Essential qualifications: recent experience hiking nearby trails; familiarity with the facility's lodging accommodations and outdoor activities; knowledge about outdoor gear and backcountry safety; and an outgoing, friendly personality. Program Volunteers must also hold current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certifications, and AMC's Risk Management & Leadership training. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, AMC members, and pass a criminal background check. Benefits: Receive free meals and lodging, and retail discounts, while volunteering. Schedule: Information Volunteers serve weekends year-round and daily during summer and school vacation weeks. Program Volunteers serve on weekends, primarily in summer and during holiday weekends. Commitment: Commit to volunteering at least 32 hours per year, for at least three years. Participate in a training weekend each spring for the first two years as a volunteer, and once every three years after that. 2019 Training: The volunteer training for Pinkham, Highland, Huts, and Cardigan will be held at AMC's Highland Center, May 3rd to 5th.
