Overview

Hermit Lake Shelters is looking for new Information Volunteers. These volunteers are passionate about helping people safely enjoy day hiking on Mt. Washington and camping at Hermit Lake Shelters. Information Volunteers greet guests in a friendly manner, orient them to the facility, help them set up camp, share information about trails and weather conditions, and advise visitors about hiking plans. Essential qualifications: recent experience hiking Mt. Washington trails; familiarity with Hermit Lake Shelters; knowledge about outdoor gear, camping, and backcountry safety; and an outgoing, friendly personality. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, AMC members, and pass a criminal background check. Schedule: Information Volunteers serve on weekends during summer and early fall. Commitment: Commit to volunteering 2 weekends per year, for at least three years. Participate in a training weekend each spring for the first two years as a volunteer, and once every three years after that. 2019 Training: The volunteer training for Pinkham, Highland, Huts, Hermit Lake, and Cardigan will be held at AMC's Highland Center, May 3rd to 5th. Application Process: Request an application by emailing amcvolservices@outdoors.org. Submit your completed application by January 31st. Applications may be accepted through spring if space is available.

Cost*

Adult: $50 member
*The $50 rate is for the training weekend. Its includes lodging, meals, and all training sessions. Lodging will be in shared bunkrooms.
