Schuylkill River Trail Pawlings Road Trailhead,
Do you have the guts to join this glorious 46.2 mile, 10-12 MPH bike ride, on the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) in dead of winter? Join us on the SRT Arctic Express! This bike ride down the Schuylkill River Trail is a ride I'm sure you will enjoy. We will start our ride at the Pawlings Road Trailhead in Valley Forge and ride the SRT all the way to the Philadelphia Art Museum where we could either re-enact the 1976 classic movie Rocky by running to the top of the steps and jump with hands in the air and/or take a short break somewhere warm, possibly a cafe or restaurant in the area, before our return ride on the SRT back to the Pawlings Road Trailhead. This 46.2 miles of mostly flat paved blacktop bike riding includes a lot of both popular or historic places. Along the trail we will be able to see; Valley Forge, Manayunk, Fairmount Park, Laural Hill Cemetery, Boathouse Row, Philadelphia Art Museum and of course the city of Philadelphia. We will make several stops along the way to regroup everyone. If you don't mind the cold, heavy wind resistance and love the idea of an uncrowded SRT. This is the ride for you! If the trail conditions are regular and the trails are clear, you could bring either your hybrid bike or a road bike with good traction. If trail conditions are worse than usual, you could bring either your hybrid bike or a mountain bike with fat tires and good traction. You will receive an update from me a day or two before. You will need a helmet, around 1.5-2 Liters of water, snack, spare bicycle tube, standard set of bike repair tools, wind cover for your face and correct clothes for the temperature. We will meet at the Schuylkill River Trail Pawlings Road Trailhead (GPS: 40.1141386,-75.455543) at 9AM and leave shortly after. Severe weather will cancel. Please contact me if you have any questions.
