A spectacular trip for those looking to sample Alaska with only a daypack! Due to popular demand, we are offering an extended version of the trip that we ran in 2019. On this spectacular journey, we will be day hiking and sightseeing during the day, staying in comfortable lodging at night, and eating fresh seafood and local grub all through the long days of Alaska's ephemeral summer. We will spend 12 days and 11 nights exploring Anchorage and the Chugach mountain range, Denali National Park, and rub elbows with the locals in the funky mountain town of Talkeetna (perhaps the model for the TV show, "Northern Exposure"). An 8 hours RT Denali NP Transit Shuttle to Eielson Visitor Center (mile 66) allows us to see high-alpine tundra, tremendous views of Denali on clear days, and chances to see large mammals such as grizzly bears and caribou. These buses stop for wildlife viewing, restroom stops and beautiful scenery, just like tour buses. One of our days in Denali is devoted to a full day of hiking though this incredible wilderness. We will also enjoy an 8.5 hours Kenai Fjords National Park's marine life and glaciers on a cruise from the fishing port of Seward. All told, we will travel ~800 miles through pristine Alaska wilderness! We offer seven days of moderate level hikes when weather permits. Expect to be flexible. You should be fit and experienced enough to hike multiple days for 3-6 hours, 5-8 miles and up to 2500 ft. elevation gains on typical Alaska trails: sometimes rocky and uneven, sometimes steep. We left enough time on our endless summer tour to explore the many optional activities in Alaska, whether that is a Denali sightseeing tour, a visit with the sled dogs, or landing on a glacier in a bush plane, and so much more.
