Overview

Not many people get to experience the country of Oman. From the desert-scape of the Empty Quarter to the lush green south with its fruit plantations and wildlife such as oryx and gazelles, Oman glories in a uniquely diverse topography for nature lovers. It has the highest mountain on the peninsula as well as enchanting cities, sparkling sea, canyons and fjords. A limitless destination full of culture, excitement, natural richness and incredible landscapes. Oman's diverse, unique and unspoiled landscapes are coupled with a huge range of activities and distinct national culture. Our 11-day trip to this far away land will include time in Muscat, capital of the country, along with visits to pre-Islamic forts, ancient settlements with stunning mountain landscapes, oasis hamlets, views of their highest mountains and the Grand Canyon of Arabia. Tired yet? There's more. How about several days in the Wahiba Sands including two nights in Bedouin tents, desert treks with camel support and a desert expedition in 4X4's. Still more - this amazing adventure will end with date and lemon plantations, a turtle sanctuary and close with a spectacular seaside resort stay. This adventure offers you the opportunity to explore the beautiful and exotic country of Oman and experience the culture, food and friendliness of this area. It will also allow you time to explore Muscat, the desert and the beautiful beach of this amazing country. This vast northwestern region of Oman is also referred to as The Sharqiya Sands or Ramlat alWahiba by locals, and covers 4,800 square miles of mostly uninhabited desert space. The area is famed for its stunning golden dunes - just as spectacular as the Sahara's, albeit on a smaller scale. One of the main attractions here is the presence of the centuries-old Bedu people, who specialized in raising camels for organized races across the region (held annually from October to April.) The less conservative Bedouin lifestyle here also allows women to have a more active role in society, and they are instantly recognizable with their brightly-colored costumes, detailed masks and flowing robes. The dunes can only really be explored in 4x4s and we will, and don't expect any hotels for miles; we will bed down under the stars instead for two nights to remember in the Omani desert. Our trip is an 11-day journey through this breathtakingly beautiful country of Oman. A balance of hiking, sightseeing and culture will make this trip a memory of a lifetime.
