Granville State Forest, Granville 42.059924, -72.971394,
Massachusetts, Pioneer Valley,
The hike follows various trails within the Granville State Forest. The mileage for the hike is 5 to 6 miles. A Trail Map is available at https://www.mass.gov/files/documents/2016/12/xy/granville.pdf. Requirements: You do not need to register for Tuesday Hikes, but you must show up at the trailhead on the day of the hike fully prepared for the conditions you may encounter on the hike. Requirements of the hike include proper footwear (the area is wet, so waterproof hiking boots are recommended), snacks and lunch, water (one to two liters should be enough for the average hiker), rain gear (if forecast calls for precipitation), and hiking poles if you use them. During winter months, there is almost always snow or ice on the trail, and unless otherwise noted MICRO-spikes or snow shoes will be required. Please bring MIICRO-spikes and snow shoes to the meeting place where a determination will be made, based on the conditions, as to which will be required. Please contact the leader if you do not have all the equipment. Dress for cold weather (hats, gloves, etc.). Dress in layers. Avoid cotton as it does not dry once wet.
The Granville State Forest is located at 323 West Hartland Road which is off Route 57 in Granville, MA. Route 57 West may be accessed via Interstate 91 in Agawam, or from 10/202 South in Southwick. We are parking at the second parking area in the State Forest going south on West Hartland Road. It is approximately one mile from the intersection of West Hartland Road and Route 57 on the left. It is immediately after you cross the bridge over the Hubbard River and it has an information kiosk. A porta potty may be found at the Rangers Station which is approximately .5 miles past our parking area.
