Please join Raun and Jay on an adventurous hike through Delaware Water Gap starting at Dunnfield Creek and ending at the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center. We will travel along Dunnfield Creek Trail and cross over Dunnfield Creek several times, hike along the eastern edge of the glacial made lake 1000ft above sea level named, Sunfish Pond, travel along Raccoon Ridge and enjoy the spectacular views, descend the Kasier Trail, explore the remains of an old Coppermine + buildings, see some beautiful waterfalls, experience the amazing views along the A.T. at the Mohican Center. This is a shuttled hike. We will meet at the Mohican Center and then shuttle out to the Dunnfield Creek Parking Lot off of Rt.80. This is a moderately challenging 15-mile hike with 2,800+ feet elevation gain. There are several stream crossings on logs near the beginning of the hike. Bring a pair of creek crossing shoes. There is no way to keep your feet dry crossing on rocks at Dunnfield Creek. Part of the route is exposed to wind. We are not going up the typical Mt. Tammany red dot trail on this hike, but there are plenty of hills. Previous strenuous hiking experience is needed. Suitable traction devices (MICROspikes, Hillsound or equivalent) for your boots may be required depending on current trail conditions. You will not be allowed to hike with us or ferry to the start if the leaders decide traction devices are required and you do not have them. The main car parking lot to drive to is at the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center on Camp Mohican Road, Blairstown, NJ 07825. The GPS coordinates are 41.0356943, -74.9999583. Go through the gate past the Mohican Center on your left keep going until you see a sign that says "BLACK OAK" "ALL PARKING" We will meet there at 9:00AM and leave soon after. The shuttle location for some drivers from there is at 4.971650, -75.125722. This is an all-day event. Bring creek crossing shoes, traction devices, lunch, freeze-proof water, snack, suitable clothing including face covering, poles if you use them, and a head lamp just in case. Severe weather (heavy snow, ice) will cancel. No dogs.
