Registration is required for this activity.

Registration is requested (but not absolutely required) in order to help manage group size and ensure a safe and fun hike. A YES RSVP can be changed to NO at any time. Even if you are on the waitlist you will likely be able to attend due to many last minute cancellations and no shows. Enjoy sensational views in Bear Mountain State Park as we hike up Bear Mountain on the the newly rebuilt Appalachian trail, which was the first section of this iconic trail originally opened in October 1923. Continuing on the AT, we then hike on the pleasant Fawn and scenic Timp-Torne up to West Mountain. The AT, Fawn and SBM trails take us back to the Bear Mountain Inn. There we can top off the hike with mouthwatering Panda Paws ice cream, and visit the Bear Mountain Traders Post and other fun places on the grounds. There will be easy access back to Manhattan by bus from the Inn. We will hike at a steady, brisk 3 level (not fast, but definitely not slow) pace over a distance of 8 miles, with some steep hills on hiking trails in the woods and on rocky terrain. Cumulative elevation gain will be approximately 2300 feet.  There are no special skills or equipment required, other than to wear hiking boots, and have at least 2-3 quarts of water/sports drinks along with lunch.  However, hikers should be in good condition to complete a strenuous hike on a warm day (Per AMC policy, please no dogs, unless indicated otherwise). Rain or even questionable forecast, as well as terrain not suitable to conduct the hike safely due to very wet and slippery rocks, may cancel or modify; check website for latest updates. We meet at 10:15 at the Bear Mountain Inn. The transportation information for both public transportation leaving from Port Authority and cars (AMC Trans code: 4F on the AMC New York-North Jersey website) is indicated below. Please purchase a one way ticket since there may be rides back to the city offered, and arrive a bit early to allow time to purchase tickets, and getting to the proper gate (usually gate 408 but check at ticket counter). There is a $10 Bear Mountain State Park parking fee per vehicle for those driving. 4. 8:45 a.m. COACHUSA/Short Line. (www.coachusa/shortline). Purchase ticket at Short Line Ticket Windows. F.
