Join the Winter Hiking Series for instruction and hands on training in the use of equipment to safely hike 4,000 footers in the winter. The Series includes an opening weekend of instruction and hikes at Highland Center followed by 4 additional day hikes in the White Mountains. AMC Trip Policy


Adult: $315 member / $335 non-member
*two nights lodging at Highland Center, two dinners, two breakfasts, and two lunches as well as a book and other training materials.

Larry has completed the 67 New England 4,000 footers in three seasons and the 48 NH 4,000 footers in the Winter including all of them in one winter season. Larry is an active hiker who has completed the Grid in 2018 and is always working on other lists. Larry enjoys teaching others and is the Director of the NH Winter Hiking Series and instructs at the AMC NH Winter and Spring Workshops. Larry also actively maintains trails during the summer.


Brian Tausendfreund is the assistant director of the WHS and is a NH Chapter Class 1 four season leader. He has led AMC hikes to all of the NH and NE 4,000 footers. He has completed 5 rounds of the NH 48 including in winter and two rounds of the NE67. Brian completed the WHS in 2011 and has been a WHS instructor for the past 5 years. Brian is an Adventure Travel co-leader and instructs at our Cardigan Winter and Spring schools.


Dan Heon is a NH Chapter Class 1 four season leader. He has completed the NE 67 as well as the NH 48 in Winter. In addition to instructing at WHS, he also instructs at our Cardigan Winter and Spring School as well as Map and Compass Workshops.
