New Hampshire, Upper Connecticut River Valley/Lake Sunapee,
This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Hiking Program (WHP) and is only open to registered participants of that program. If you would like more information about the WHP, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or follow the link below. This weekend workshop will be held at the 5,525 acre Mt. Cardigan State Park in Orange and Alexandria. The summit of Mount Cardigan is at 3,121 feet and is flanked by subsidiary peaks, Firescrew Mt. 3,040ft and Gilman Mt. 2,620ft. There are a number of trails that start right at the lodge and provide a variety of hiking challenges. The trails and terrain are similar to those found in the White Mountains and will provide an opportunity to practice our winter outdoor skills. There are also some easier lowland trails. The purpose of this workshop is to learn the basics of winter mountain hiking. The emphasis of the workshop will be on basic individual and group hiking techniques, safety, preparedness, heat management, proper use of clothing, nutrition, and snowshoeing and non-technical crampon use. This is also a fantastic opportunity to meet other like minded hikers and share in the winter hiking experience.
