Join us for a long distance hike in Gallitzin State Forest, State Gamelands 26 & Blue Knob State Park. We will hike at a steady brisk pace for the duration of the through hike of Pennsylvania's Lost Turkey Trail. The red blazed Trail is 26+ miles long and contains 3,560' ascent from end to end. The views closer to the end of the trail are spectacular. Hog Back Ridge contains a monument for children who got lost in the mountains and perished in 1856. Closer to the end of the trail features some challenging inclines including Herman Point which is the second highest point in Pennsylvania. Previous strenuous long distance hiking experience is needed as we will have some elevation. HIKE PLAN: After an early Saturday morning shuttle, we will begin hiking on the trail. There is going to be a point near halfway for a longer break and replenish water and food sources. The hike will end shortly after the climb up Herman Point. OVERNIGHT: Blue Knob State Park has camping available if you reserve a site. Map: ( I would suggest staying the night before (Friday, August 28) and the night after (Saturday, August 29nd) at the campgrounds if you can. Or stay somewhere nearby due to the early meeting times and long driving distances. TRAIL MAPS: Meeting location and details including GPS coordinates will follow registration.
