Overview

This fun trip is a great opportunity for teens to explore their own ideas about public lands, while taking part in a community of young people who are actively seeking to improve the relationship between people and the land. In collaboration with The Wilderness Society (TWS), this program includes thought-provoking discussions about our nation's history of protecting landscapes for public use and enjoyment and the wellbeing of our planet's ecosystems, all while backpacking and canoeing through the public waterways and wilderness areas of the White Mountain National Forest and Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Topics include how policy and society can promote or exacerbate diversity, equity, and inclusion in environmental issues. Teens on this trip can expect to enjoy hiking and canoeing, while also contributing to regional citizen science projects and discussing conservation, science, and advocacy. Teens will also have the opportunity to share a personal call-to-action at the end of the trip, on a topic they choose, to an audience of AMC and TWS staff.
