Join us for our annual Memorial Day weekend adventure. This year we plan to bike southwestern Virginia's 57-mile New River Trail which has been designated as an official National Recreation Trail by the US Department of the Interior. The highlight of this impressive rail trail is the awesome 36-mile section along the New River, the oldest river in the US. Along our route we will pass and explore cavernous tunnels, steep dams and trestle bridges - including the stunning 950-foot Hiawassee trestle; most of the trail is surrounded by the New River SP. A shuttle service will be utilized in order to complete the entire trail; cost approximately $50/pp. Additional activities include local hiking on Friday and Monday. Motel lodging at Fox Mountain Inn, approximately $75/night double occupancy; meals at local eateries. Appropriate gear is required, hybrid/mountain bike [trail surface crushed stone, packed dirt], extra tubes, helmet mandatory. Bring breakfast and lunch fixings, snacks. Contact Leaders for additional information.
