In support of the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to minimize the risks to the most vulnerable among us, AMC will immediately begin the process of temporarily closing all lodging and foodservice facilities and suspending all in-person staff and volunteer led programming through April 30.

Acadia Adult Base Camp Volunteer Vacation

Date and Time

Thursday, September 17, 2020 11:00AM - Tuesday, September 22, 2020 9:00AM

AMC's Echo Lake Camp,
Maine, Downeast and Acadia,

Registration is required for this activity.

Spend an extended weekend at Echo Lake Camp, on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, giving back to the trails of Acadia National Park and enjoying camaraderie with fellow trail stewards! Volunteer Trail Work: The crew will be working on a section of trail identified by the National Park Service trail crew. The project may involve installing side ditches, drainage structures, steps, or other trail maintenance projects. Crews work rain or shine. The hike and work can be strenuous, but this crew is designed to engage volunteers with no prior trail work experience. An early Thursday arrival is an opportunity to check in, spend the day enjoying Echo Lake Camp and Mount Desert Island, and then greet the crew leaders and the rest of the crew before dinner. Our registrar can provide recommendations on island activities - whether hiking, biking, paddling, or sightseeing, there's so much to enjoy on Mount Desert Island! Friday-Monday are spent working on the trail project. Transportation is provided by van to and from the project trailhead. Accommodations: The crew will be staying in shared canvas-walled tents with beds on wooden platforms at AMC's Echo Lake Camp. Restrooms and showers are centrally located on the camp grounds. The camp also offers a library, and large stone hearth to take the chill out of the fall evenings. Nearby Southwest Harbor offers shopping, galleries, museums, and laundry. Breakfast and dinner will be prepared by the camp's staff and served in a dining room overlooking Echo Lake. Trail lunches will be available to pack at breakfast each morning. Our last dinner together on Monday night will feature locally-sourced lobster (and other options). New this year, Echo Lake Camp will be open to guests through September, so the Trail Crew will be enjoying meals and the facility along with all of the camp's guests.
