Date and Time

Sunday, August 9, 2020 3:00PM - Friday, August 14, 2020 1:00PM

AMC's Cardigan Reservation,
New Hampshire, Lakes Region,

Registration is required for this activity.

Teens ages 14-16 get out and give back while camping and spending a week on the trails at AMC's Cardigan Reservation! Volunteer trail crews are an opportunity to meet new friends, learn about conservation, practice camping skills, and accomplish a meaningful trail stewardship project. One-week crews are appropriate for volunteers who are new to camping and volunteer trail work. Arrival is Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at AMC's Cardigan Lodge, where volunteers will meet their crew and leaders, set up camp and get ready for dinner. The campsite at Cardigan Lodge is a short walk from the lodge. There is an outhouse and faucet for potable water nearby. Tents are pitched on elevated wooden platforms, and crews can enjoy gathering around the campfire. Crew members all take turns helping with meal preparation and camp chores throughout the week. Crews will spend the week working on a trail stewardship project. The crew may hike several miles each day, and work may involve installing drainage structures, building rock steps, constructing bog bridges, restoring impacted areas, building cairns and scree walls, and other trail maintenance projects. The work will be strenuous, and we will be out rain or shine. After working, crews may enjoy a hike, swim, or game at camp. The crew will wrap up on Friday, breaking camp, cleaning tools, and enjoying a final lunch before departure at 1:00 PM.
