Lyford Pond Camps,
Come ski with us on a unique advanced BC tour from AMC's Lyford Pond Camps (LPC) to the B-52 crash site on the northwest shoulder of Elephant Mountain near Greenville, Maine. As an added bonus, we will also seek out the tail section, which is on AMC's property on the southwest shoulder of Elephant Mountain Trails and conditions will carry greatly; they will be a combination of dirt roads, trails and some bushwacking. We will strive to make the grades moderate, but there may be some shorter steeper sections. We expect variable snow conditions. Some of the roads/trails will be either packed out or groomed. Thus full skins and metal edged BC skis with at least about a 70/55/65mm profile are required. High topped leather or possibly lighter plastic boots are recommended, depending on your ski ability in BC conditions. We will meet in Greenville at Northwoods Outfitters on Monday, then drive and ski as a group from the winter parking lot to Lyford Pond Camps, approximately 7 miles; on Thursday we will reverse this. You can have one duffel bag brought in by snowmobile at $25 per bag per trip, or carry all your own gear for free. We will have two full days on Tuesday and Wednesday for attempts to get to the B-52; these are long days at about 15 miles. If we reach it on Tuesday we may do another local ski on Wednesday. Detailed itinerary and maps/gps files will be shared with participants. We will be staying in a rustic but cozy and comfy cabin at Lyford Pond Camp that will have a mix of bunks/beds. Heating is by wood stoves & there is electric power until about 9 pm. There are showers, toilets and a wood fired sauna in a central bath house for the camp. Dining will be hearty and healthy and served family style in the main lodge dining room. Wine/beer are available for purchase/consumption in the main lodge. Participants are welcome to BYOB for consumption in the cabins. The cost of $375 for AMC members/$425 non-members will include 3 nights lodging, all meals from dinner on Monday through trail lunch on Thursday, Gear transport from the parking lot is available for an extra $25 per trip per bag. Per AMC policy, cancellations > 14 days prior receive a full refund minus a $25 fee and < 14 days prior will forfeit the full amount. Contact Mike Barry at email@example.com; or 617.257.2251 to sign up or for questions.
Will be provided to registered participants.
