This will be a Class 2 trip focused on re-building solid whitewater skills and is especially meant for paddlers who need a Spring refresher. Weather, water levels and river access permitting, we'll start in the morning with a quick, fun run down the Upper Winni (Quickwater/Class 1/Class 2) taking some time to practice ferries, eddy entries and peel outs, wave surfing on the easy features this section offers. After lunch, we'll do the Pemi Bristol (30 min. north). At normal flow levels, this is a lively Class 2 run with an optional low-consequence Class 3 wave train/surf spot at the very end (we'll scout it ahead of time, so you'll know what to expect). For those wanting more challenge, there's a Class 3 hole that most of us will skirt around . . . Combined, these two rivers offer a perfect learning progression from Quickwater to a high-adrenaline, low-consequence Class 3. No need to do both runs if you only want to do one. Paddlers MUST have either a wetsuit or a drysuit for safety (the water will be COLD!), and you'll probably want a helmet liner, and gloves, mittens or pogies. You'll also need a whitewater-capable boat with flotation (mandatory), Open canoe, C1, kayak and WW inflatables are all welcome. Kayaks and C1s must have a tight-fitting sprayskirt. Rental boats are available with prior planning (see link below). All paddlers must wear a helmet and PFD at all times while on the water.

The AMC was there for me when I wanted to learn how to paddle whitewater. Now I'm leading trips to pay that forward.
