Overview

We love the outdoors. Yet we meet INDOORS every second Wednesday of the month for a very special group of readers and books. The Essay Book Club, in part the gift of Book Culture book store, is a core group of warm, witty, fun but serious readers who welcome walk-ins and open membership to other readers. Our choices tend to be writers who love adventure, nature, or are shrewd observers of human nature. JOIN US! Even if you haven't read every essay in a book, we welcome new ideas and thoughts! Feb. 12th at the 112th street store we will discuss Susan Orlean THE ORCHID THIEF and THE LIBRARY BOOK (Couldn't break the tie votes!) Please RSVP directly to Loretta Brady, AMC paddler at lorettajbrady@hotmail.com so we can know how many chairs to add! Can't make this night? This stimulating group meets monthly here on the second Wednesday of every month, covering all kinds of profound, enlightening and fun essay writers. BOOK CULTURE gives a generous discount to members of this essay club, so if you buy books there (or at any of it's other branches) be sure to mention this and save some $$$. The Essay Book Club meets every second Wed. here at 7 pm and is open to ALL! Past selections included Barbara Kingsolver SMALL WONDER, Svetlana Alexeivitch's VOICES OF CHERNOBYL, Mary Oliver, Toni Morrison, Gabriel Garcia Marquez (journalism) and more.---but most often many other titles relevant to lovers of nature and the planet. Feel free to ask more questions about this event, or future monthly sessions. Again, though, faster responses can be had if you email me directly. lorettajbrady@hotmail.com
