We'll carpool first to the State Line trailhead leave some cars there. and the to the Village Vista trailhead in Greenwood Lake Village. where the hike will start. The route will be 8.5 miles including the Appalachian Trail and Ernest Walter Trail. "Early-out" option is possible after lunch. Spectacular views of Greenwood Lake and distant mountains and we will also pass by West Pond and Surprise Lake. The meeting place can also be reached by bus from NYC. Bus departs from Port Authority Bus Terminal Gate 233 at 7.45 a.m. and arrives at 9:21. (AMC NYNJ Trans. code 3D.) Hourly return service to NYC in the PM. To get an update of hike status (in case of cancellation) check listing after 8 pm the evening before the hike in case this has been changed from Open to Canceled. Please bring traction devices, There may be little snow or ice after the mild weather the previous weekend although more may fall later. Also make sure you are carrying extra layers and a headlamp/flashlight in case of an unanticipated need for a prolonged stop on the trail. It has happened on day hikes! This hike is rated 3D9, which means a brisk pace and with hills and a few scrambles for 9 miles. There will be rest stops at places with good views and at trail junctions. If you are unsure of your abilities to complete this hike (for example of you have previously been on Level 2 hikes only) please call so we can discuss.
Meeting place is the shopping Plaza with a Tractor Supply Company, Lukol, post office and closed A&P supermarket, It is on the south side of a Union Valley Rd (rte 513 in Hewitt NJ which is part of W Milford. .
