Overview

Join us on this exclusive women-only excursion into the wild- female hikers, female guides. These trips offer the spirit of adventure in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere! We'll begin with dinner and an introductory meeting at AMC Joe Dodge Lodge. We prepare for our backcountry adventure by focusing on the appropriate gear needed for our trip as well as a review of our itinerary. After a hearty breakfast we'll pack into an AMC Van for transport to the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail head. We'll hike the moderate 3.1 miles to Lakes of the Clouds. We'll have plenty of time to explore the area around the hut with lighter packs before dinner. We will try to summit Washington in the afternoon or the next morning based on weather conditions. Backcountry lodging and hearty meals are provided at AMC's Lakes of the Clouds. Lakes of the Clouds Hut, highest of all at 5,012 feet above sea level, is one of the most storied locations in the hut system. Our highest and most visited destination, Lakes of the Clouds Hut is an essential bucket list destination. This trip involves difficult hiking on steep, rocky terrain. Weather can change quickly and become quite cold and windy above treeline. Participants should be good hiking shape, have proper hiking boots and clothing and be prepared for an alpine adventure! SAMPLE ITINERARY: Day 1 : Meet for dinner and pre-trip orientation in the beautiful White Mountains. We meet at the AMC Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch. Please arrive anytime between 3pm and 5pm to check in and get comfortable. For those who would like to get out before dinner, lodge staff can recommend short hikes in the area. Meet your Guides in the dining room for a 6 pm dinner, and review of the trip itinerary, gear needs and other important information. We'll overnight in the lodge. Dinner included. Day 2: Our Adventure Begins! After a hearty breakfast we'll do a final gear check, pack lunch foods and travel to the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trailhead. We'll hike the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to Lakes of the Clouds Hut, gaining 2500 feet in elevation in 3.1miles. Afternoon Summit Attempt: Depending on weather, trail conditions, and group abilities, we will attempt to hike a further 1.5 miles up to the summit of Mt. Washington, and back down to the hut. We'll have a family style dinner at the hut followed by and optional evening program with the Hut Naturalist. Day 3: Last Leg The trail we hike out will be based on the weather and ability and interest of the group.
