Get your hiking legs in gear and hit the trail before the summer hiking season! This weekend will focus the skills needed to start day hiking. Program Highlights: Participants will learn how to prepare for a day hike Route planning (terrain considerations, weather considerations, timing) What to carry (10 essentials plus weather considerations) What to wear (appropriate clothing, layering) Types of gear (backpacks, traction, poles) Participants will learn how to fit a backpack, use hiking poles and what footwear to choose Participants will learn basic map reading and compass use Participants will be hiking on a variety of terrain with Tips and techniques shared along the way Sample Itinerary: First Day Check in at the Lodge any time after 3 pm 6:00 pm Dinner 7:30 pm meet and greet/ overview of the weekend Second Day 8:30 am -Morning clinic and hike 12:00 pm Sit down lunch 1:00 pm Afternoon clinic and hike 5:30-7:30 pm Buffet Dinner 8 pm Evening Program Third Day 9:00 am Hike option with discussion on the trail Lunch on the trail 2 pm Wrap up and goodbyes!
