Overview

Celebrate Earth Day 2020 with a mindful, scenic hike along one of NJ's tallest waterfalls!   We will do an 8-mile hike up Buttermilk Falls and then along the AT to Crater Lake and Hemlock Pond while enjoying valley views along the Kittatinny Mountain ridge.  To capture the spirit of Earth Day, we will break for lunch and take extra time to sketch or write in our personal journals as we reflect on the day's inspirations. This is the perfect intro to nature journaling for newcomers!  There is a 1,000 foot elevation gain along the hike - the initial ascent (1.5 mi) and final descent (1 mi) are very steep (including some possible scrambling) with relatively level trails in between. Hiking poles are recommended for rocky and steep terrain.  Please pack sufficient water, a lunch and snacks. Bring a rain layer just in case of April showers. Don't forget a small notebook and a pen/pencil for your journal! Please register with the leader for the meeting time and location and feel free to reach out with any questions. Heavy rain/storms will cancel.
