French Creek Hopewell Lake boat ramp parking area,
Come out and join Larry, Jay, and occasionally a different AMC leader for a weekly hike on the trails at French Creek State Park. Expect a moderate pace for around 7 to 9 miles. This hike is rated "vigorous" due to it being over 8 miles long. We will take time to stop for breaks at the top of hills and as needed. Each week we try to mix up the route a bit to keep it interesting. You may get a different leader from the week before; We will adjust Meetup to indicate the actual leader(s) for that week's hike. We favor keeping the group together even though there are multiple leaders present. Expect less than 1000 feet total elevation gain the whole hike. The 9-mile upper limit allows us to do routes which include any of the park's trails. The routes use typical trails thru the woods with rocky sections, mud and occasional roots. We can hike more on gravel roads/trails for muddy conditions. The starting location is at the Hopewell Lake boat ramp parking area. The GPS coordinates are 40.19956,-75.78934. Modern facilities at the start. We meet there at 8:45 AM and leave soon after. We should finish up around 1:00 PM. Bring water plus a snack if desired. There is limited cell phone coverage in the park, so contact a hike leader before the hike if you are not sure of the start location. We only cancel this hike due to adverse weather conditions which make it unsafe to drive or hike. No dogs on this hike please.
