National Trails Day - Trail Relocation & Maintenance Project

Date and Time

Saturday, June 6, 2020, 9:00AM - 4:00PM

First Light parking/boat launch lot next to the Iron Bridge in Falls Village, CT. West side of River,
Connecticut, West of River,

Registration is not required for this activity. However, you may wish to contact the leader(s) if you have any questions.

Join us as we prepare a short relocation of the famous Appalachian Trail near Rand's View and the Giant Thumb rock formation on Raccoon Hill. The new quarter mile section will replace a currently steep and eroding section of trail with a more gradual and sustainable treadway. The project will include clipping and cutting vegetation to open the trail, sidehilling and other trail defining techniques to establish the trail, and blazing of the new route at the end. All are welcome. No prior experience is required and all tools and training will be provided. Bring gloves, lunch and lots of water. Note: The hike into the worksite involves a short (0.25 mi) section of steep climbing. Total distance 3.5 miles. We will meet at First light parking/boat launch lot next to the Iron Bridge in Falls Village, CT; across the river from the hydro-electric power plant. Please note: rain cancels this event.
