Overview

Hike 12 miles starting on one of the oldest blue blazed trails in the state blazed in 1930s to one of the newest blue trails in CT blazed in 2019 at new Hubbard Brook Preserve. STRENOUS in AMC ratings We will hike about 9 miles then stop at a picnic area and beach on the river . Bring a picnic lunch and wade or swim then we will continue along the river for another 3 miles back to your cars.. There is a variety of terrain.. 4 miles along the river, rocky pegmite outcrops - high bluffs with some of the best views of the CT River I've ever seen, a Mountain Laurel Preserve, a couple of bushwhacks, Chinese Wall, reservoirs that were hand dug in the 1800s for what is now CVH and past stone walls which was once the village of Maromas. The village was swallowed up in the 1950s by CT Advanced Nuclear Engineering Lab (now Pratt Whitney). Apres: Is the picnic during the hike During the hike social distancing will be required and face coverings will be required when social distancing maybe a challenge (especially at the beginning, during breaks and end of hike). Please don't attend if feeling ill or you were around a COVID patient. Bring Face mask and hand sanitizer You are required to reserve a spot on this hike. Hit "Register" BE FIT and STAY WITH GROUP- WE HIKE FAST 2.5 mph w. few stops 5 hrs. on rough trails in all weather- Don't overestimate your ability-.this is for advanced hikers- STRENOUS in AMC ratings Dogs okay w. leash/vaccination but YOU must check park rules BRING: http://www.hikesafe.com/index.php?page=full-gear-list, printed map, phone, H2O, snacks, raincoat, head light, poles, coat for overnite temps.
