Overview

The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) will be held twice in 2020 at the AMC Corman Harriman Outdoor Center in July and September. The WFA course covers: >What is back country first aid >What are the golden 24 hours >Splinting and bandaging >Prioritizing needs >Patient assessment >Patient care >How to improvise, modify, and adapt The class is 16 hours in length and you must attend all 16 hours to be trained and certified in WFA. The class is fast paced in order to cover all the material and to get hands on practice through various scenarios. Previous first aid training is not necessary. Class size is limited in order to get the maximum time for hands on practice. Students are told to bring their full day packs and to learn how to use what they carry to deal with back country medical injuries/situations. All registrants are required to have the following: Masks or appropriate face coverings will be mandatory during the entire class; All students must have their own bottle of hand cleaner or sanitizer Students should bring latex gloves (dish washing gloves would be acceptable, but must be snug fitting) This event is led by the chapter's Harriman Program Committee and Wilderness First Aid Committee Volunteer Leaders. Registration: Registration is mandatory. This program sold out last year. So register early! Space will limited based on AMC guidelines resuming activities. Register by Friday, June 2, midnight. Registered guests will receive an Information Sheet with their Confirmation email. Cost: Camp Day Only: $155 Members / $210 Non-members (Tent Platforms): $230 Members / $295 Non-members Rate includes 2 nights accommodation (if applicable), instruction, course materials, certification (if test is passed), and volunteer leadership. Meals are not included and may be purchased as add-on with registration. Trail lunches may be purchase at camp, but advance purchase of breakfast and dinner is recommended. There is a secure bear box and campfire grill if you prefer to cook your own meals. Rate excludes EventBrite and credit card processing fees for Non-members. Become an AMC Member and receive a discounted rate. Accommodations: We will stay at the Beaver Brook Tent Platforms. Each platform can fit 4 two-person backpack tents per site. Tents can be borrowed from the camp if reserved in advance. Modern bathhouses are nearby. Check in at the camp office when you arrive. Check-in time is Friday at 3 pm. Plan to arrive by 6 pm for dinner. Check-out time is Sunday at 11 am, while you are required to have packed up your gear from the platform by that time, you will be in class the remainder of the day.
