Join Jay Sitkin on an Adventure Travel Survey Trip weekend at the Mohican Outdoor Center in the Delaware Water Gap. This will be a leisurely weekend for hiking and mindful awareness of the changing of the seasons. Prepare to be fascinated by fall foliage and walk-in wonderment through the fall beauty of the Water Gap. We will have at least two hikes each day, of varying lengths and difficulty levels. Hikes can include rocky sections and will include Easy, Moderate, and Vigorous difficulty levels ranging between 2.5 to 12 miles some with moderate elevation gain. The Mohican Outdoor Center is located on a beautiful glacial lake in the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The fall foliage will be spectacular. The Black Oak Lodge which normally houses 16 offers plenty of social distance space for the group which will be limited to 8 people. The lodge has multiple bedrooms, a full kitchen, and showers. This adult-only weekend will begin on Thursday evening October 8th for the early birds who wish to arrive early and be able to enjoy an extra Autumn day of hiking. We'll cover many of the classic trails such as the Appalachian, Coppermine, Rattlesnake Swamp, Kaiser, McDade, Garvey Springs, Thunder Swamp, Tower, Acropolis, and more. Cost is as follows: lodging is $42.65 members/$48 non-members per night and meals as follows: breakfast $12.50, lunch $12, and dinner $25. There will be BYOB social hours on Friday and Saturday evenings. Since this is an Adventure Travel Survey Trip, each participant will be asked to complete a survey regarding your experience of the weekend and the leader's coordination of the event. When you participate in this activity, you should be in proper condition for the challenges outlined above. You should always be aware of the risks involved and conduct yourself accordingly. You are ultimately responsible for your own safety. Prior to your acceptance as a participant in this trip, you will need to discuss the current AMC Covid-19 protocols. Remember that various factors may require changes for reasons of safety, transportation or lodging availability, and unforeseeable circumstances (such as weather considerations, natural disasters in areas to be visited, or governmental or ranger recommendations). The leader reserves the right to make such changes as necessary, both before and during the trip. For information about the Mohican Outdoor Center call 908-362-5670.
