Overview

This two night backpack starts and ends at the Denning Trailhead in Denning NY.    Total Elevation Gain is 3,178'.  Total Distance 15 miles. Pace will be slow but steady and no more than 1.5 mph. Table at #10 and Peekamoose at #11 are reached via trail.  Lone #16 is a bushwhack rated most difficult.   We start at noon Friday and set up camp after 1.5 miles.  As there is lots of daylight left we climb Table and if possible Peekamoose and return to camp for a further 6 miles.  Saturday is a 6 mile round trip bushwhack ascent of Lone.  Return to cars Sunday by noon. Optional start - Join leader who will arrive 5:00 Thursday the 16th and hike 1.5 miles into camp.  Meet the group on Friday as planned. To ensure your safety and enable you to join us on this hike, you must register here on the AMC Activities Database web site, complete the liability waiver form, and have your registration confirmed by this activity's AMC Chapter Leader. You will be notified by email when you are confirmed as a participant. ANYONE NOT RECEIVING A REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION FROM THIS ACTIVITY'S LEADER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO JOIN THE GROUP AT THE TRAILHEAD.AN RSVP ON MEETUP IS NOT CONSIDERED BEING REGISTERED FOR THIS ACTIVITY - THAT CAN ONLY BE ACCOMPLISHED HERE ON THE AMC ACTIVITY DATABASE WEB SITE. In the event that social distancing (6 feet) cannot be maintained during this activity, every participant must have a suitable medical or cloth mask made of two layers of fabric with them which covers their nose and mouth that they can use.   Vigorous: Suitable for those with recent similar experience and/or demonstrated proficiency, such as being active in sports or often (regular) engagement in vigorous physical activity. Ability to perform at the expected level for back-to-back days for multiday trips. Expect to be active up to 5-6 hours per day, with brief breaks. Suitable for those with previous backpacking experience in good physical condition who are comfortable hiking off trail.  Leader requires a bear canister and safety glasses are required due to the off trail conditions.  A mask must be worn whenever we cannot be socially distant.  Leader likes a slow steady pace and the group will stay together for safety.  Leader has done the peaks in the winter but not the summer. I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.
